As an admitted attorney of the High Court of South Africa, Ben Chite has over 20 years’ experience in the legal industry and is responsible for the management of legal instructions received by the organisation. Ben Chite began his career in Durban at Adams & Adams law firm where he practiced maritime and international trade law. He was then appointed by Webber Wentzel and practiced commercial/corporate law, project finance and media sports and technology law. He also spent time in the banking sphere where he furthered his knowledge and skills in banking operations, banking law, public sector lending and corporate strategy at various institutions including Standard Bank/Stanbic Africa and Nedbank Corporate Legal. Ben was also the recipient of the Nedbank Encore performance award for his role in drafting and negotiating a R900 million loan facility for the EThekwini Municipality. This was the largest lending transaction in the public sector at the time.
As Head of Legal for the world’s largest producer of steel, ArcelorMittal, Ben Chite established the legal department in South Africa and was instrumental in the reversal of a R691.8 million fine imposed on the organisation by the Competition Commission in an epic anti- trust/anti-competition matter. Since then our Founder has established additional legal, as well as risk and compliance departments within private corporate entities and in the public sector with the City Of Ekurhuleni.
